Grandstream UCM in Morocco: which IP PBX to choose (UCM6301, 6302, 6304, 6308…) and which phones
UCM6301, 6302, 6304, 6308 or Audio series: capacities, FXO/FXS ports, Wave, RemoteConnect and GRP, GXP, DECT phones. Our Grandstream guide for Morocco.

The short answer: with Grandstream, choosing a UCM IP PBX comes down to three criteria, in this order. How many analogue lines must you connect (0 to 8 depending on the model)? How many concurrent calls at peak times? Do you need built-in video meetings? The advertised user ceilings, from 250 to 3,000 depending on the model, are rarely the limiting factor for an SMB. This guide covers the current models, the cloud services, the phone families, and the cases where we recommend 3CX or Yeastar instead.
At ALLSAFE SOLUTIONS, we install, configure and maintain Grandstream solutions in Casablanca and across Morocco, alongside 3CX and Yeastar, as an official 3CX partner and a Yeastar certified partner. Every capacity quoted here comes from datasheets published by Grandstream; we do not give prices, which vary by distributor and over time.
The two current UCM ranges
Grandstream currently offers two on-premises IP PBX ranges, both based on Asterisk 16, with three Gigabit ports, PoE+ and router mode:
- The UCM6300 series (UCM6301, 6302, 6304, 6308): voice, video and built-in video meetings.
- The UCM6300 Audio series (UCM6300A, 6302A, 6304A, 6308A): voice, instant messaging and audio meetings, no video.
Both ranges share the essentials: call queues and automatic call distribution, IVR menus up to 64 levels, call recording, voicemail to email, fax to email, hot standby high availability, an API for CRM and hotel software, and automatic provisioning of Grandstream phones. A useful point in Morocco: the admin interface is available in French, and voice prompts are available in French and Arabic, among others.
UCM6300 series: capacities by model
| Model | Users | Concurrent calls (G.711) | Of which SRTP encrypted | FXO / FXS ports | Form factor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UCM6301 | 500 | 75 | 50 | 1 / 1 | Wall or desktop, touchscreen |
| UCM6302 | 1,000 | 150 | 100 | 2 / 2 | Wall or desktop, touchscreen |
| UCM6304 | 2,000 | 300 | 200 | 4 / 4 | 19-inch rack, dual power input |
| UCM6308 | 3,000 | 450 | 300 | 8 / 8 | 19-inch rack, dual power input |
Source: Grandstream UCM6300 Series datasheet. Built-in meetings accept up to 9 video feeds per room, with an overall participant ceiling ranging from 75 (UCM6301) to 300 (UCM6308).
Two things to read in this table. First, the SRTP column: if you encrypt calls, which we recommend as soon as phones or apps are outside the office, that is your real capacity, not the first figure. Second, the form factor: the UCM6304 and 6308 are rack-mount units with two power inputs, better suited to a server cabinet than to a desk.
UCM6300 Audio series: voice without video
| Model | Users | Concurrent calls (G.711) | Of which SRTP encrypted | FXO / FXS ports | Form factor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UCM6300A | 250 | 50 | 50 | none | Wall or desktop |
| UCM6302A | 500 | 75 | 75 | 2 / 2 | Wall or desktop |
| UCM6304A | 1,000 | 150 | 120 | 4 / 4 | Wall or desktop |
| UCM6308A | 1,500 | 200 | 150 | 8 / 8 | 19-inch rack |
Source: Grandstream UCM6300 Audio Series datasheet. Meetings are audio only, from 50 to 150 simultaneous participants depending on the model.
The Audio series makes sense when video meetings already run on Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Zoom and the PBX is only used for calls. Watch out for the UCM6300A: with no analogue ports at all, it assumes every line arrives over a SIP trunk, or that an external gateway is added.
Grandstream in the cloud: RemoteConnect, GDMS and CloudUCM
Three services complement the appliances, and they should not be confused:
- GDMS (Grandstream Device Management System): the vendor’s cloud console to provision, monitor, update and troubleshoot the UCM and Grandstream phones remotely.
- UCM RemoteConnect: a companion cloud service for the UCM that handles firewall (NAT) traversal for remote users, without exposing the PBX to the internet. A basic plan is assigned to the UCM when it is linked to GDMS; higher, paid plans increase the number of remote users, concurrent sessions and cloud storage. It is purchased through GDMS, not from the UCM itself.
- CloudUCM: an IP PBX fully hosted by Grandstream, with no appliance on site. We check case by case whether it is available and suitable for a Moroccan client, especially for number connectivity.
Wave, Grandstream’s free app for Windows, Mac, browser, Android and iOS, lets users call from their extension, chat and join UCM meetings. Combined with RemoteConnect, it replaces the desk phone for mobile teams.
Grandstream phones, family by family
| Family | Example models | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| GRP Essential | GRP2601 (P/W) | Simple phones, shared offices, large rollouts |
| GRP Professional | GRP2612, GRP2614, GRP2615, GRP2636 | People on the phone all day, busy-lamp keys |
| GXP high-end | GXP2135, GXP2170 | Reception and operators, many BLF keys |
| DECT | DP750, DP752, DP755 bases; DP720 to DP735 handsets; DP760 repeater | Warehouses, workshops, clinics, staff on the move |
| Wi-Fi | WP810, WP816, WP825, WP836 | Retail, logistics, healthcare, on a well-designed Wi-Fi |
| GHP | Hotel range | Hotel rooms, linked to the hotel software |
On the DECT side, a DP755 base takes up to 10 handsets and a DP752 up to 5, and each base accepts up to 5 DP760 repeaters to extend coverage. The WP825 and WP836 are ruggedised, useful in damp or dusty environments. For Wi-Fi phones, the wireless network matters as much as the handset, as we explain in high-density enterprise Wi-Fi.
Grandstream phones provision themselves automatically on a UCM (“zero config”), one of the real benefits of a single-vendor ecosystem. Standard SIP phones from other brands can still be used.
Our method to choose the right UCM
- Count the analogue lines to keep: carrier lines, fax, door entry, alarm. They set the number of FXO and FXS ports, or the need for a gateway.
- Measure peak concurrent calls, not headcount. This is often the most poorly estimated figure.
- Decide on call encryption: with SRTP, size on the encrypted capacity.
- Settle the video question: built-in meetings (UCM6300 series) or an existing video tool (Audio series).
- Plan for remote users: number of Wave users outside the office and the matching RemoteConnect plan.
- Assess criticality: a second UCM in high availability if reception cannot stop.
- Choose phones profile by profile, then check PoE, voice VLAN and Wi-Fi.
Grandstream, 3CX or Yeastar: our honest view
| Situation | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| All-in-one appliance with analogue lines, built-in meetings and same-brand phones | Grandstream UCM |
| Hotel wanting room phones and integration with the hotel software | Grandstream UCM (hotel API, GHP phones), to validate with your software |
| Multichannel customer service, WhatsApp, advanced CRM integrations | 3CX, see why 3CX wins in SMBs |
| Physical site, very simple administration, Linkus mobile | Yeastar P-Series |
| Office already fully on Microsoft 365, no call centre | Teams Phone, worth assessing |
All three are solid. Grandstream stands out for what the hardware delivers and the consistency of its ecosystem. 3CX remains our preference for contact centres and software-based multi-site setups; Yeastar for ease of operation. We detail these trade-offs in 3CX, Yeastar or Teams Phone: which phone system for an SMB.
Mistakes we fix on UCM systems
- A UCM6300A bought on price while the site has analogue lines to keep: a gateway then has to be added.
- The web interface exposed to the internet “to help remote workers”, instead of RemoteConnect or a VPN.
- The default password kept and international calls open to every extension: the gateway to toll fraud.
- No configuration backup off the appliance, and no copy of recordings.
- Firmware never updated, even though GDMS makes updating the UCM and phones easier.
- SIP ALG left on in the router or firewall, a classic cause of one-way or silent calls, see the mistakes that ruin call quality.
Checklist before ordering a Grandstream UCM
- Number of analogue lines, fax machines, door entry systems and alarms to connect.
- Peak concurrent calls, with or without SRTP encryption.
- Need for built-in video meetings, or a video tool already in place.
- Number of remote users and the RemoteConnect plan required.
- SIP trunk or existing lines, validated with the carrier, see SIP trunk: keep your numbers.
- Phones by profile: GRP, GXP, DECT, Wi-Fi, Wave app.
- High availability needed or not.
- Network ready: voice VLAN, QoS, PoE, firewall, second internet link.
How we do it
We start with a free audit of your usage and network, to size the PBX on your real call volumes. We then choose the UCM model and phones, prepare the numbering plan, IVR menus and queues, and connect your analogue lines or SIP trunk. Security is part of the installation: strong passwords, restricted admin access, limited international calling, encrypted remote calls, and RemoteConnect rather than exposing the PBX to the internet. After cutover, the UCM, the lines and call quality are monitored 24/7, and a critical incident is handled in under 15 minutes.
To place Grandstream among the other options, read our guide to business IP phone systems in Morocco, and find our services on the Grandstream page and in our IP telephony offering. Browse our case studies, then request your free initial audit: we reply within 24 business hours with a costed recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a UCM6302 and a UCM6302A?
Both have 2 FXO and 2 FXS ports. The UCM6302 from the UCM6300 series handles up to 1,000 users, 150 concurrent calls and video meetings. The UCM6302A from the Audio series handles up to 500 users and 75 concurrent calls, with audio-only meetings. Figures are from Grandstream’s datasheets.
How many analogue lines can a Grandstream UCM take?
Depending on the model, 1 (UCM6301), 2 (UCM6302 and 6302A), 4 (UCM6304 and 6304A) or 8 (UCM6308 and 6308A) FXO ports. The UCM6300A has no analogue ports. Beyond that, you add an FXO gateway connected to the PBX.
Can remote workers use a UCM without a VPN?
Yes, with UCM RemoteConnect, Grandstream’s cloud service that handles firewall traversal for the Wave app and remote phones. A basic plan is assigned free of charge to a UCM linked to the GDMS console; higher plans increase the number of remote users and sessions.
Grandstream, 3CX or Yeastar: which one?
Grandstream fits a project built around an all-in-one appliance, with analogue lines, built-in meetings and phones from the same vendor. For a multichannel contact centre and deep CRM integration, we lean towards 3CX; for a physical site that must be very simple to administer, towards Yeastar.
