How much does an Odoo project cost in Morocco? The budget items to plan

Cost of an Odoo project in Morocco: Community or Enterprise licence, integration, data migration, training, hosting, backup, support and questions to ask.

“How much does Odoo cost?” is the first question business owners ask us when they want to leave Excel behind. The honest answer: the licence is only one item out of seven. A complete Odoo budget covers the chosen edition, integration, data migration, training, hosting, backup and post-go-live support. A quote that does not detail these items cannot be compared with others, and often hides surprises.

This article gives no prices: they depend on your scope, the number of users and the vendor’s rates, which change. It does give you the list of items to plan for and the questions that let you compare two quotes.

A useful clarification: ALLSAFE SOLUTIONS integrates, hosts and maintains Odoo for SMBs in Morocco, but is not an official partner of the Odoo vendor. We therefore have no interest in steering you towards one edition rather than another.

Item 1: edition and licence

Odoo comes in two editions:

  • Odoo Community: the open-source version, with no licence fee. It is the core on which Odoo Enterprise is built.
  • Odoo Enterprise: the subscription version, billed per user per month, paid yearly or monthly.

According to the vendor’s website, Enterprise adds notably the Android and iOS mobile app, the Studio customisation tool, payroll, the version upgrade service, hosting by Odoo and functional support. Odoo also offers a free plan limited to a single app with unlimited users, hosted on Odoo Online.

The paid offer comes in several plans. The “Standard” plan gives access to all apps on Odoo Online. The “Custom” plan adds a choice of hosting (Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise), Studio, multi-company and external API access. Details and rates are published on odoo.com: check them when you get the quote, they change.

What makes this item vary: the actual number of users, the chosen plan and whether you need Enterprise-only features.

Item 2: integration and configuration

This is often the largest and most variable item. It covers:

  • business workshops to describe your real flows: sales, purchasing, stock, invoicing, collection;
  • configuring modules, document templates and approval workflows;
  • adapting to Morocco: currency, taxes validated by your chartered accountant, legal identifiers on invoices, numbering. We detail these settings in our guide Odoo for a Moroccan SMB;
  • any custom development and integrations with other tools.

What makes this item vary: the number of modules, process complexity and above all custom development. A need covered by standard Odoo always costs less than custom development, both at installation and at every later migration.

Item 3: data migration

Customers, suppliers, products, price lists, opening balances: this data is rarely clean. Duplicates, incomplete records and missing identifiers must be fixed before import. The work is shared between your teams, who know the data, and the integrator, who prepares import templates and checks the result.

What makes this item vary: volume, the state of the files and whether history is migrated (old invoices, stock movements). Migrating all history is rarely essential: decide with your chartered accountant what really needs to go into Odoo.

Item 4: training and go-live support

A poorly adopted ERP costs more than one never deployed: users go back to their spreadsheets and enter everything twice. Training is done by profile (sales, sales administration, accounting, management), on your own data, with a short guide specific to your company. The first weeks after go-live also call for closer support to fix what only real use reveals.

Item 5: hosting

Three main options:

Option Who runs the server Points to watch
Odoo Online The vendor Simple, but customisation limited to what the platform allows
Odoo.sh The vendor, with test and development environments Suited to custom modules; reserved for the Custom plan
Dedicated server or cloud managed by the integrator The integrator or your IT team Full flexibility, but security, updates and backups must be in the contract

With Odoo Community, hosting by the vendor is not available: you need a dedicated server or a managed cloud. In every case, check where the data is stored: Odoo holds personal data about customers and employees, subject to Morocco’s law 09-08.

Item 6: backup

Your invoicing and stock live in Odoo. A daily, off-site backup, protected against deletion and tested with a real restore, is not optional. If hosting is managed by the integrator, the quote must state the frequency, storage location, retention period and how often restores are tested. Our guide to immutable 3-2-1 backup details the rule we apply.

Item 7: support, maintenance and migrations

After go-live come user questions, fixes, new needs and updates. Odoo regularly releases new major versions. With Enterprise, the version upgrade service is included in the subscription, but custom modules must be adapted. With Community, migration is done by your own means or by your integrator: it must be budgeted.

Support can be a fixed package, a monthly subscription or hourly. What matters: the guaranteed response time, the scope covered and any cap. The clauses to check are the same as for a managed IT contract.

Questions to ask about an Odoo quote

Item Question to ask
Licence Which edition, which plan, how many users, yearly or monthly billing?
Integration How many workshops, which modules, what custom development, who maintains it?
Data Which data is migrated, who cleans it, how many test imports?
Training How many sessions, for which profiles, with what materials?
Hosting Where, with whom, with what test environment?
Backup How often, where, for how long, restore tested when?
Support What response time, what scope, what cost for migrations?
Exclusions What is not included in this quote?

The last question is the most revealing: a low quote that excludes data migration, training or backup is not cheaper, it is incomplete.

Mistakes that make the budget drift

  • Comparing quotes on the licence alone, without looking at integration and support.
  • Trying to reproduce the old tool exactly, at the cost of extensive custom development.
  • Starting with every module at once rather than in stages: sales and invoicing first, then stock, purchasing and the rest.
  • Underestimating data migration and the time your teams will need to spend on it.
  • Choosing Community to save on the licence, then discovering that an essential feature is Enterprise-only.
  • Leaving hosting, backup and migrations out of the multi-year budget.

Checklist before requesting a quote

  • List of processes to cover, in order of priority.
  • Number of users per profile.
  • List of essential features, to check whether they exist in Community or only in Enterprise.
  • Inventory of data to migrate and the state of the files.
  • Tools to connect to Odoo: bank, e-commerce site, payroll software, telephony.
  • Hosting and data location constraints.
  • A budget over several years, not just for go-live.

How we do it

We start with the free initial audit: mapping your processes, choosing between Odoo Community, Odoo Enterprise or Dolibarr based on your needs, and estimating item by item. The quote details each of the seven items and explicitly lists exclusions. We then configure Odoo, migrate your data, train each profile and host the solution with off-site backups, 24/7 monitoring and support: reply within 24 business hours, critical incidents handled in under 15 minutes.

All of this is part of our ERP and CRM offer. Odoo is particularly well suited to retail and distribution and manufacturing and logistics businesses. Discover also our technology partners, our case studies and our IT audit method.

Frequently asked questions

Is Odoo free?

Odoo Community is open source with no licence fee. Odoo Enterprise is paid, as a subscription billed per user. Odoo also offers a free plan limited to a single app, hosted by Odoo. In every case, integration, data migration, training, hosting and support still need a budget.

What is the cost difference between Odoo Community and Odoo Enterprise?

Community has no licence fee, but some features are reserved for Enterprise, notably the mobile app, Studio, payroll, the version upgrade service and hosting by Odoo. Without them, you sometimes need to develop or add modules and handle migrations yourself: the cost moves, it does not disappear.

What are the hidden costs of an Odoo project?

The most common are underestimated data migration, unplanned custom development, training cut to the minimum, version migrations, hosting without a tested backup and post-go-live support billed by the hour with no cap.

What questions should you ask about an Odoo quote?

Which edition and how many users, which modules are included, how many workshops and days of configuration, which data is migrated, how many training sessions, where and how Odoo is hosted and backed up, what support after go-live, and what is not included.
