The short answer: Dolibarr is a very good ERP for a Moroccan SMB with clear processes (quotes, orders, invoices, stock, customer follow-up), and it is already localised for Morocco. What makes a project succeed or fail is rarely the software: it is the choice of modules, the quality of the hosting and tax settings validated by your chartered accountant. This guide covers what Dolibarr can do, how to configure it for Morocco, where to host it and how a rollout works.

At ALLSAFE SOLUTIONS, we install, configure, host and maintain Dolibarr and Odoo for SMBs in Casablanca and across Morocco. The technical information in this guide comes from the official dolibarr.org website, its documentation and its public code repository; we quote no prices, which depend on each project’s scope. If you are still deciding between the two ERPs, start with our comparison Odoo or Dolibarr for a Moroccan SMB.

Dolibarr in brief

Dolibarr ERP & CRM is free, open-source software distributed under the GNU GPL version 3 licence, developed by a community and a supporting foundation. The current stable branch is version 24, released in summer 2026. It works with modules you enable as needed:

Area Main modules
Sales and CRM Third parties (customers, prospects, suppliers), commercial proposals, orders, shipments, contracts, interventions
Purchasing Supplier price requests, supplier orders and invoices
Invoicing and finance Customer invoices, payments, banks and cash, double-entry accounting
Products and stock Products and services, warehouses, stock movements, lots and serial numbers, manufacturing
Human resources Employee records, leave, expense reports
Other Point of sale, website, emailing, document management, REST API

Beyond the standard modules, DoliStore, the official marketplace, offers free or paid add-ons. An external module is not maintained by the Dolibarr project: check its compatibility with your version before every upgrade.

What is already built in for Morocco

Many companies don’t know this: Dolibarr already includes Morocco-specific elements.

Element What Dolibarr provides To validate
Company identifiers R.C., patente, I.F., C.N.S.S. and ICE fields on company and third-party records Entering your identifiers and your customers’
VAT Preloaded dictionary of Moroccan VAT rates Rates in force under the latest finance law
Accounting Moroccan chart of accounts available in the accounting module Mapping of revenue, expense and VAT accounts with the accountant
Language French interface, among other languages Document templates and legal mentions

In practice, setup means entering the company identifiers, checking the active VAT rates, adapting the PDF templates for quotes and invoices (mandatory mentions, the customer’s ICE, payment terms) and deciding with your accountant between bookkeeping in Dolibarr or an export to their software. Our guide on invoicing for Moroccan SMBs with an ERP details the mentions to include, which apply to Dolibarr too.

Where to host Dolibarr

An ERP holds your invoicing, your customers and your prices. Hosting matters as much as the software.

Option Advantages Watch points
On-premises server (at the office) Data on site, no dependency on a host Off-site backup essential, remote access over VPN, UPS, continuity when the office is closed
Hosted server or VPS Accessible anywhere, good availability, adjustable capacity Someone must manage OS updates, firewall, certificates and backups
SaaS Operations delegated, quick start External modules sometimes restricted, reversibility and data location to check

SaaS offers recognised by the project are listed on saas.dolibarr.org. For a hosted server, we compare options in Morocco and abroad in hosting servers and backups in a datacentre in Morocco. As customer and employee data is personal data, also consider the obligations of Morocco’s data protection law 09-08 and the CNDP, especially when hosting outside Morocco.

Official technical prerequisites

Dolibarr’s official documentation sets modest prerequisites:

Component Official prerequisite
Web server Any web server with PHP: Apache, Nginx, IIS…
Database MariaDB 10.3 or later, MySQL 5.7.7 or later, PostgreSQL 9.1 or later
PHP Sessions enabled, memory limit of at least 128 MB; PHP version depends on the Dolibarr version (see release notes)
Operating system Linux recommended; Windows possible but slower for a server
Installation Auto-installer packages, standard distribution for Linux, Windows, Mac, and a Docker image

These low prerequisites are misleading: a Dolibarr that runs is not a Dolibarr that is properly operated. In production, what makes the difference is HTTPS encryption, named accounts with limited rights, two-factor authentication for external access, regular updates and a backup of both the database and the attached documents.

Which company profiles is Dolibarr suited to?

Profile Is Dolibarr suitable? Typical modules
Services company, engineering firm, practice Yes, very well Third parties, proposals, invoices, contracts, interventions, time spent on projects
Trading and distribution from one warehouse Yes Orders, shipments, stock, supplier invoices, point of sale for a counter
Installer, on-site maintenance Yes Interventions, maintenance contracts, spare-parts stock, scheduling
Simple manufacturing workshop Yes, to be validated Bills of materials and manufacturing orders, stock
Multi-site manufacturing, integrated e-commerce, several companies Rather Odoo To be assessed case by case

This table reflects our field experience, not a technical limit: Dolibarr can manage several warehouses and, with the MultiCompany add-on available on DoliStore, several entities. The real question is whether the complexity of your flows justifies a more integrated ERP.

The role of a Dolibarr integrator

Dolibarr installs in a few clicks, which leads many companies to deploy it on their own. An integrator’s work lies elsewhere: translating your processes into configuration, avoiding unnecessary modules, making document templates reliable, migrating existing data cleanly, training teams and, above all, handling hosting, backups and updates over time. The integrator also tells you when a need calls for configuration, a proven DoliStore module or custom development, which is best avoided as it complicates every upgrade.

Rolling out Dolibarr: our process

  1. Scoping: current processes (from price request to payment), documents produced, users and rights, tools to replace (spreadsheets, invoicing software).
  2. Module selection: enable only what is used. Every unnecessary module adds menus, fields and confusion.
  3. Hosting: server or SaaS chosen according to your constraints, installation, HTTPS, firewall, automatic backup.
  4. Morocco settings: company, identifiers, VAT, banks, document numbering, PDF templates, chart of accounts if bookkeeping is done in Dolibarr.
  5. Data migration: customers, suppliers, products, opening stock, open invoices, imported with the standard import tool after cleanup.
  6. Testing on a copy: a full quote, order, delivery, invoice, payment cycle, checked by your accountant.
  7. Training by role: sales, warehouse, accounting, management.
  8. Go-live and follow-up: support during the first weeks, then maintenance, updates and monitoring.

Securing and maintaining Dolibarr

A Dolibarr instance exposed to the internet is a target like any other. The rules we apply:

  • Scheduled updates, tested first on a copy, checking external modules.
  • Backup of the database and the documents folder, off-site and tested by restore, following the 3-2-1 rule with an immutable copy.
  • Named accounts and group-based rights: a salesperson does not see accounting.
  • Two-factor authentication for external access, see our MFA rollout guide.
  • Restricted admin access and a server protected by a firewall.
  • Monitoring of availability, disk space and backups.

Mistakes we come across

  1. Every module enabled from day one, and teams lost in the menus.
  2. A single “admin” account shared by the whole company, with no traceability.
  3. No backup of attached documents: the database is backed up, but not the PDFs and attachments.
  4. DoliStore modules installed without tracking, which later block an upgrade.
  5. A version never updated, for lack of a test procedure.
  6. Tax settings not validated by the accountant, discovered at the first tax return.

Checklist before starting your Dolibarr project

  • Processes described, from price request to payment.
  • List of users, their roles and the rights they need.
  • Required modules identified, external modules checked for your version.
  • Hosting option chosen, with off-site backup and secure access.
  • Company identifiers, VAT rates and invoice templates validated with the accountant.
  • Data to migrate cleaned: customers, suppliers, products, stock.
  • Test environment and full cycle validated before go-live.
  • Maintenance contract: updates, backups, support.

How we do it

We start with a free audit of your processes and IT: current tools, volumes, users, hosting constraints. We tell you frankly whether Dolibarr is enough or whether Odoo fits better. We then handle installation, secure hosting, Morocco-specific configuration with your accountant, data migration and training. In operation, the server and backups are monitored 24/7, and a critical incident is handled in under 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dolibarr suitable for Moroccan companies?

Yes. For Morocco, Dolibarr provides the R.C., patente, I.F., C.N.S.S. and ICE identifiers on company records, a dictionary of Moroccan VAT rates and a Moroccan chart of accounts. These must be checked with your chartered accountant, especially after each finance law, before the first invoice.

Is Dolibarr free?

The software is free and open source, under the GNU GPL version 3 licence. Project costs come from hosting, configuration, data migration, training, maintenance and any add-on modules bought on DoliStore, the official marketplace.

Where should Dolibarr be hosted: on-premises server, VPS or SaaS?

All three are possible. An on-premises server keeps data on site but requires an off-site backup and secure remote access. A VPS or hosted server offers good availability if someone handles updates, firewall and backups. SaaS (offers listed on saas.dolibarr.org) removes the operations burden but sometimes restricts external modules.

What are Dolibarr’s technical prerequisites?

According to the official documentation: a web server with PHP (Apache or Nginx, for example), a MariaDB 10.3 or later, MySQL 5.7.7 or later, or PostgreSQL 9.1 or later database, and a PHP memory limit of at least 128 MB. Linux is recommended for a server, as performance is lower on Windows.

Should you move from Dolibarr to Odoo as the company grows?

Not necessarily. Dolibarr covers an SMB’s sales, purchasing, invoicing, stock and CRM well. Odoo comes into consideration when flows multiply: several warehouses with complex rules, advanced manufacturing, integrated e-commerce, several companies or extensive automation.
