Buy Microsoft 365 in Morocco: editions, commitment, billing and migration

Buying Microsoft 365 in Morocco: which edition, monthly or annual commitment, the seven-day rule, invoicing through a partner, tenant ownership and migration.

The short answer: buying Microsoft 365 in Morocco comes down to four decisions. The edition, chosen user by user rather than for the whole company. The commitment, monthly or annual, which determines your freedom to reduce licences. The purchasing channel, online by card or through a Microsoft partner that invoices you locally. And the implementation, which covers tenant ownership, email migration and security. This guide takes these decisions one by one, with the rules published by Microsoft.

ALLSAFE SOLUTIONS is a Microsoft partner. We supply Microsoft 365 licences to companies in Casablanca and across Morocco, on their own or with migration and administration. We do not quote prices: they depend on the edition, the commitment and the exchange rate, and Microsoft reviews them periodically.

The editions to know before buying

Microsoft 365 for business comes in several families. For an SMB, the choice mostly involves four products:

Edition What it includes For whom
Microsoft 365 Business Basic Exchange email, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, web and mobile Office Field staff, reception, accounts using only email and Teams
Microsoft 365 Business Standard Basic, plus Office desktop apps on PC and Mac Standard office workstations
Microsoft 365 Business Premium Standard, plus device management (Intune), Defender for Business EDR and conditional access Management, finance, HR, mobile users, sensitive data
Microsoft 365 Apps for business Office desktop apps and OneDrive, without email Companies keeping another email system

Business plans are for organisations of up to 300 users. Beyond that, or for advanced compliance needs, Enterprise plans (E3, E5) take over and can coexist with Business licences in the same tenant.

The key point: licences can be mixed freely. Nothing forces you to buy the same edition for everyone. The detailed comparison and our allocation method are in Microsoft 365 for SMBs: Business Basic, Standard or Premium. If you are still choosing a vendor, read Microsoft 365 vs Google Workspace.

Monthly or annual commitment: the seven-day rule

Since overhauling its commercial offers, Microsoft clearly distinguishes two commitment types for per-user licences.

Monthly commitment Annual commitment
Term One month, renewed automatically One year, renewed at term end
Stopping or reducing At the end of any month Only within seven days of purchase or renewal
Adding licences At any time At any time, aligned with the subscription’s end date
Price Higher per licence Better value per licence
Suited to Interns, seasonal staff, temporary projects, uncertain headcount Roles that are stable over the year

The rule to remember is the seven-day one. According to the cancellation policy Microsoft publishes for its partners, an annual-term subscription can only be cancelled, with a prorated refund, within seven calendar days of purchase or renewal. After that, the licence count cannot be reduced before the next renewal. An ordering mistake is therefore paid for all year.

In practice, we often recommend a mix of both: most seats on annual commitment, and a small monthly reserve to absorb arrivals and departures. Before each annual renewal, the user list is reviewed so unneeded licences can be removed during the seven-day window.

Buying online or through a Microsoft partner

A Moroccan company has two channels.

Direct online purchase on Microsoft’s website, paid by bank card. It suits a very small business that administers its own environment. The limits appear quickly: payment by international card, invoices issued by Microsoft, and no help with configuration or migration.

Purchase through a Microsoft partner, which resells licences under Microsoft’s partner programme. This is the most common route for SMBs:

  • an invoice issued by a company, ready for your accounting;
  • a choice between monthly and annual commitment, with licences grouped on a single renewal date;
  • licences added or removed on request, within Microsoft’s rules;
  • renewal tracking, so no subscription expires unnoticed;
  • support for migration, security and end users.

Either way, the services are exactly the same: Microsoft’s servers host your email and files. What changes is the invoicing, the point of contact and the service around the licences.

The tenant must belong to the company

The tenant is your company’s Microsoft 365 space: it holds accounts, mailboxes, files and security settings. It is the first thing we check when taking over licences.

  • At least one global administrator account belongs to the company, protected by two-factor authentication, with credentials kept in-house.
  • The partner works with delegated rights, which the company can revoke, rather than with the only administrator account.
  • The email domain is registered in the company’s name, with access to its DNS zone.

These precautions mean that changing licence provider involves no migration and no downtime: your data stays in your tenant, only the billing channel changes.

What happens if a subscription is not renewed

A missed renewal does not cut everything off on the day, but the countdown is real. According to Microsoft’s documentation on the subscription lifecycle:

Stage Duration Access
Expired 30 days Users keep access to files and services
Disabled 90 days Only administrators can access data
Deleted Permanent Data removed under Microsoft’s retention rules

Hence the value of tracking renewal dates, and of an independent backup of mailboxes and OneDrive: Microsoft ensures service availability, not long-term restoration of your data. We explain this split of responsibilities in Microsoft 365 backup: shared responsibility.

Migrating to Microsoft 365

For most Moroccan SMBs, buying licences goes hand in hand with a migration: email hosted with a web host (cPanel, Plesk), Google Workspace, or an old Exchange server. The steps hardly vary:

  1. Inventory: mailboxes, aliases, shared mailboxes, volumes, connected devices and applications.
  2. Tenant preparation: domain verification, account creation, assigning the right editions.
  3. Data copy: email, calendars and contacts copied in the background, without cutting the existing email.
  4. Cutover: updating the domain’s DNS records outside working hours, then a final sync.
  5. PCs and phones: reconfiguring Outlook and smartphones, installing Office apps where the edition includes them.
  6. Security: two-factor authentication for everyone, legacy protocols blocked, security policies applied.

The most common case is described step by step in migrating email from cPanel to Microsoft 365. For security, see secure Microsoft 365: the 10 essential settings and our MFA rollout guide.

Data outside Morocco and Law 09-08

Microsoft 365 data is hosted in datacentres located outside Morocco. Your tenant’s data location is shown in the admin centre, in the organisation profile. If your mailboxes and files contain personal data about customers, employees or patients, this storage is a transfer of data abroad under Law 09-08, to be addressed before migration. The steps are explained in Morocco’s data protection law 09-08.

Buying mistakes we see

  1. Putting everyone on Business Premium for simplicity, or everyone on Business Basic to save money, without looking at actual usage.
  2. Ordering too many annual licences at the start, then finding they cannot be reduced after seven days.
  3. Leaving the tenant in a contractor’s name, with no internal administrator account.
  4. Paying for inactive accounts: former employees, generic mailboxes that could be unlicensed shared mailboxes.
  5. Skipping backup in the belief that Microsoft handles it.
  6. Migrating without enabling MFA, leaving email exposed to password theft from day one.

Checklist before buying your licences

  • List of users with their actual usage: email only, desktop Office, sensitive data, mobility.
  • Edition assigned to each user, and shared mailboxes identified.
  • Split between annual and monthly commitment.
  • A single renewal date, recorded and tracked.
  • Global administrator account owned by the company, with MFA.
  • Email domain in the company’s name and access to the DNS zone.
  • Migration plan, backup and Law 09-08 review planned before cutover.

How we do it

We start with a free initial audit of your email, users and current licences, to assign the right edition to each person and choose the right commitment. Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Microsoft 365 directly online from Morocco?

Microsoft offers online purchase by bank card. Many companies prefer to go through a Microsoft partner: an invoice issued by a company, licence and renewal management, and one point of contact for migration and support. ALLSAFE SOLUTIONS, a Microsoft partner, supplies licences on their own or with implementation.

What is the difference between monthly and annual commitment?

A monthly-term subscription can be stopped at the end of any month. An annual-term subscription is fixed for the year: under Microsoft’s policy, it can only be cancelled, or its licence count reduced, within seven days of purchase or renewal. Adding licences remains possible at any time.

What happens if a Microsoft 365 subscription is not renewed?

According to Microsoft’s documentation, a subscription that reaches the end of its term without renewal spends 30 days in an expired state, during which users keep access, then 90 days in a disabled state where only administrators can access data. It is then deleted along with its associated data.

What should I buy beyond 300 users?

Business plans are limited to 300 users. Beyond that, you move to Enterprise plans (E3, E5 and their variants), which can coexist with Business licences in the same tenant.

Do mailboxes change when you change licence provider?

No. Mailboxes, OneDrive and Teams belong to the company’s tenant, not to the reseller. Switching partner requires no data migration, provided the company is the administrator of its own tenant.
